The Heritage Insurance Company Tanzania limited was incorporated in June 1998, following the liberalization of the insurance market in Tanzania and commenced operations in November 1998. In a short span of seven years, we have emerged as market leader, writing gross annual premium of Tshs 22.67 bn during 2006. With a paid up capital of Tshs 2.85 bn, our net assets exceed Tshs 7 bn. Heritage is now the largest private insurance company in Tanzania.

Heritage Insurance is a subsidiary of The Heritage Insurance Company, Kenya, whose genesis can be traced back to 1908 and 1920, when two UK based companies, The Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society and The Legal & General Insurance Co. Ltd., commenced business operations in Kenya. These companies merged their operations in 1976 to form The Heritage Insurance Company Ltd.  In 1997, the company took over the operations of African International Insurances (AII) and was rechristened as The Heritage Insurance Company Limited.

The Heritage is part of the CFC group, which includes CFC Bank, CFC Financial Services, CFC Life Assurance and CFC Holdings Ltd. (an investment company)

Mac Group Limited, Tanzania is our local partner with a share holding of 40%. Heritage Tanzania has 49% share in Strategis Insurance, the first specialist health insurance company in Tanzania. In 2004, we also made a substantial investment in Alliance Insurance Corporation through the purchase of 45% of the shares of that company. These strategic investments underline our long-term commitment to the Tanzanian insurance market.

The Company offers a very broad range of non-life insurance products to meet the requirements of our customers and has a fully qualified technical team to advise complete risk management services. Our reinsurance programme is managed by Aon Re, South Africa and our reinsurance treaties are placed with leading international reinsurance companies.
